Queen's Blade Grimoire anime poster

Wow, this week the posts never end, huh? As someone from /a/ posted this morning, simultaneously with various other sites, this seems to be the new working promotional art for the Grimoire anime, I'm going to assume from an early Hobby Japan Magazine:

Leina wouldn't have appeared in my list of favorite chars for a cameo, but I guess she'll work, even if for a nice contrast with our new jerkish antiheroine...?

  1. I don't understand why people don't like Reina... Is it just because she's the main character?

    1. Nah, well, she has her cool moments sometimes, but she's too much of a "good natured, naive heroine", it's a bit cliche...

That's why I keep hoping Alicia can bring a much needed "jerk factor" into the series :3

    2. I don't like ANIME Leina because she's the most boring Leina of all the Leinas to date. Even the Spiral Chaos one had more personality going for her.

But yeah, otherwise, even just looking at your typical Leina from every version, she's easily one the more uninteresting characters in the series. That coupled with the fact that we're often forced to see a lot of her can make her get on people's nerves.

Personally, I think the series as a whole does a lot better when Annelotte and Leina are played down, because as cool as each can get, they're just not good enough to have the spotlight on for too long.

  2. I think the problem with Leina being "cliche'd" is because she was supposed to just be the "Generic Warrior Girl" and I think when Queen's Blade first came out they were making a lot of the characters to fill in the basic fantasy classes, and races with Leina being the main warrior type human, and Alleyne being the Elf, and Ymir being the Dwarf, after that I think they got a bit more inventive, since they had filled the basic fantasy character needs, and particularly in Rebellion and Grimoire.
Anyways I would have preferred the OVAs to ONLY be Grimoire characters, and I think Alicia could have worked as the main character by herself since she's still "good" while also being a jerk, but Leina being in is fine with me, I wish they didn't change Alicia's hair from brown to blonde though, but oh well.

  3. I think there is no problema with Leina at all, is not that people doesn't like here, is just people like other characters more.

  4. Yeah, Leina isn't my favorite but I don't dislike her. Actually, I really liked her. She's in the middle of the list for me, tho. I like most of QB's original cast. There's only 2 or 3 I don't care much for (or at least, their characters are fine I just don't find them visually appealing) and 1 I outright dislike. But I guess the Leina haters (which do exist, I remember seeing vocal ones while the original series was airing, so this isn't a made up idea) just don't care for the basic "hero" model... for a while now the anti-hero type has been more popular and people seem to have something against "good" people in general.

My concern isn't with Leina's appearance, tho. I'm glad that this is being made and surprised that any original series character is returning, but I'm guessing there will be more characters in it than just the ones shown. I'm stoked for animated Zara and Seiten especially but, even tho I doubt it, I hope they're not gonna leave out the rest of the new cast, especially Tina and Goldie. Maybe Leina won't be the only classic character showing up either. But actually, I thought Grimoire took place in a parallel universe? Based on what I know of how parallel universes are used in other franchises, sure she or other characters could show up but things should be completely different in regards to them or what's going on with them. But I guess this means Grimoire is taking place in parallel to the original series, which would be awesome.

My real concern is about what happened to the the Rebellion series and if that will ever be wrapped up now. I was expecting Rebellion to get one more season or at least one or a few OVAs and then get followed up by a Grimoire season. I hope at least that the Grimoire OVA is leading into a season for it.

But still, this is another reasin I think this is turning out to be the best year ever for anime ecchi/fanservice fans.

  5. The problem with Rebellion was that they had a great story in the illustrated books which they just completely ignored (even the prequel ova's were ignored). The Rebellion anime was almost a remake of season one but with different characters, it didn't even become a rebellion until almost the end.

I can understand Reina being used as a tie in character so people will know that this is Queen's Blade.

    1. And the fact that Rebellion ended on a cliffhanger. That kind of sucked. I recommended people read the illustrated stories over watching the anime at my panel last year.

Let's face it, it would either be Leina or Annelotte as the guest character, and Leina is kind of the face of the franchise.
