Nice job, as always!
ReplyDeleteBTW, Do you have plans to translate (or at least give a nice resume) of the Queen's Blade light novels or at least how different is the plot of those novels with the rest of the adaptations?
For now, I don't think I'll do summaries for those, it kinda saps too much time, though I intend to at least upload the pics and the chapter's titles to the QB wiki soon.
DeleteThe first 5 novels are about this new character, a boy called Fio, and the Sword of the Unicorn, that takes Leina and him to various places of the Continent as they meet the other beautiful fighters.
The 6th QB novel seems to be kinda centered around the QB tournament, and though only 1/3 of the chars appear, it's pretty awesome.
On an unrelated note, the guys at FAKKU have been posting translations of the Queen's Blade: Hide & Seek and Queen's Blade: Aoarashi no Hime Kishi ("Princess Knight of the Blue Storm") for a little while now.
ReplyDeleteSo far they're not bad, as the QBR manga seems to follow the plot of the visual novels fairly closely (though not perfectly; e.g. it's Maria, rather than Tokiwa, who saves Annelotte from the dungeons of Gainos).
The QB manga, on the other hand, rather oddly follows Elina as she searches for Leina. It's like a side-story, and I'm not sure how "canon" it is.
Whoops, meant to enter the latter manga's title as Queen's Blade Rebellion: Aoarashi no Hime Kishi.
DeleteI've actually enjoyed Hide & Seek precisely because it has a side story feel to it and focuses on a not entirely, or even remotely, heroic character.
DeleteIt's fun too have a multiple volume QB work where Reina and Annelotte aren't the protagonist, it adds variety.
I've always wondered why Melona's always neglected to use her slime composition to its full extent. I ask this because I'm fairly certain that she can change how hard/soft her slime is, which suggests that she could do so to the point where a sword or spinning kick wouldn't do anything.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for these translations.
Yeah, she can do that, can replicate the opponent's weapons, and can absorb other lifeforms to raise her stamina, making her potentially the strongest fighter in all QB by a long shot (not just because she's one of my favs :p).
DeleteBut she won't ever fight seriously, she just takes everything as a game (kinda logical for an invincible being, I guess).
I don't know, Melona does seem to have some fairly not-insignificant weaknesses.
DeleteShe doesn't seem to have any particular resistance to energy-based attacks (see QBR episode 12), and as this issue shows, if she's separated from most of her mass, the separated parts of her body are inanimate.
The fact that she doesn't, as Amsaim stated, change her viscosity in response to attacks makes me wonder if doing so takes some time/effort on her part, and so she can't quickly react to sudden changes in attack patterns (e.g. she solidifies herself to talk to or interact with people, and can't assume a more liquid form fast enough when it becomes a fight).
She clearly has some degree of physical sensation as well, as in one of the QB OVAs the Swamp Witch is punishing her by having "phantoms" of people Melona knows stab her over and over again, with each time making Melona scream. Of course, that doesn't match with how other physical attacks seemingly cause her no pain, so perhaps the Swamp Witch's punishment was a mental illusion.
Off the top of my head, I can't remember where it says she absorbs other living creatures to raise her stamina. Where was that from?
The hardening is supposed to be instantaneous, both that and the assimilation is straight from her official profile (see it translated in the "story" part here).
DeleteAnd sure, some characters have supernatural abilities (like the Holy Poses, Tomoe's evil-banishing techniques or the twins' Counter Evil technique) that could seriously damage her or flat out destroy her, but she's a spy and an assassin: if she got serious, she'd be quite the threat.
She probably uses the hardening on her mimicked weapons and armor. Also, the absorption kind of makes sense considering how acidic she is, it's not like she HAS to eat people but if she had a choice, she really and easily could and I doubt she'd care.
DeleteShe must, otherwise her sword would be useless.
DeleteI'd like to see an example of these absorption techniques, which considering how potent a tactic it could be, I've yet to witness in the anime or and of the manga.
Not to mention she wore the Vibration Gear during her disguise in 11 and 12 and well... heh, took notice of that after she lost her form.
DeleteWell of course Melona was solid when she wore the Hyper Vibration Armor; she'd be dilatant.
DeleteEDIT: For some reason blogger won't say it's me, but this is Alzrius.
Whoops, well, the preview wouldn't say that it was me.
DeleteMany thanks for the release.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about you but I think some of us wouldn't mind getting caught in her gooey grip, so there you have it. Heh.
ReplyDeletePlease you can re-upload chapters 2 and 3?
ReplyDeleteThe translations page has all the updated links :)
