Queen's Blade: Sword of the Unicorn, chapter 4-i

Regarding the "next chars in WT" poll, Rebellion clearly won with 27v-67%, and at the end of the poll were Grimoire, Gate and Spiral with 7v-17%, 4v-10% and 2v-5% respectively.
More Vante, Tarnyang and Laila, plz! :3

And here's one of those funky polls about QB's allure~!

The battle continues! What's happening with Airi?

Enjoy!

“S-She recovered from that!?”
Fio exclaimed.
“Well, as long as they keep fighting there, she can do that as many times as she wants.”
Echidna casually crossed her legs and pointed to the ground. The boy’s eyes followed.
There seemed to be some sort of faint magic circle drawn on the floor where the fight was taking place.
“Huh?”
“You see it?”
“Yeah, what is that? It kind of looks like one of those magic circles they use for Queen’s Blade matches.”
“That circle is feeding power into Airi. As long as she stays within it, even when brought to the brink of defeat, she can continue getting right back up using the spirit orbs around her for energy.”
“W-Wait, then that means…”
[Leina doesn’t stand a chance.]

He swallowed his words.
[If I say it out loud, then it’ll definitely happen.]
That was the kind of vibe he got.
“Well, if she just fights like she normally does, then Leina’s definitely screwed. I mean, she might stand a chance if Tomoe gets involved and exorcises all those spirit orbs floating around the battlefield, but… seeing as how Leina agreed to making it a Queen’s Blade match, I’m betting the kid just plans to sit around and watch.”
“Even if she knows Leina is going to lose?”
“Little boy, you’d best learn to take the Queen’s Blade seriously. Those fighting for the Queen’s seat know it’s no joke.”

And as Echidna had predicted, Tomoe found herself with little choice but to watch as the fight unfolded. Tied down by her deep respect for honor amongst warriors, interference wasn’t an option for her.
[In this situation, what else can I do?]
The priestess pulled out several amulets from her bosom.
“At the very least, allow me to help this way.”
She threw them to the magic circle enhancing Airi’s powers.
“Break!”
The charms, each imbued with enough spiritual energy to banish a wraith from existence, slapped against the circle, putting a stop to the maid’s indefinite revivals…

Or so they should have, but against the foreigner’s expectations, the charms instead burnt to ash before they could even exert their power.
“H-How could…?”
Tomoe’s shock was evident. The source of her spiritual powers were none other than Lord Masakado. True, she was currently far from home, but she’d never seen her charms destroyed in such a manner before.
Whoever crafted that circle, they must have been beyond powerful.

“Haa, haa, haa, haa…”
Between strained breaths, Leina racked her brain for a way to put a stop to her fully revived opponent.
But unfortunately, the fighter came up empty.
And while she stood around contemplating her options, the maid leapt towards her, wrapped in lesser spirits.
“This isn’t the time to be thinking, I guess!”
The Vance girl raised her shield.
Surrounded by spirits, Airi’s body seemed to glow blue.

*Clang!*
The shield met the maid’s scythe.
“Kuh!”
The unexpectedly heavy blow numbed Leina’s arm, and made her shield creak.
“Well now, I think I’ll follow that up with another heavy one.”
On the maid’s signal, her lesser spirits gathered again, this time inside her weapon.
“Another one!? But, you can’t!”
The blonde stood there dumbfounded.

The spirits then pushed against Airi’s weapon, giving it instantaneous momentum.
“Oh, but I can.”
And with a sickeningly sweet smile, the redhead swung her scythe yet again.
*Creak*
And again, Leina’ shield only barely managed to endure the attack. Sadly, the heiress didn’t get off as easy, as her arm numbed once more from the sudden impact. Each heavy blow Airi struck her with-- each with increasingly more weight behind it -- was another bit of fatigue added within Leina.
[I know full well that keeping this up can only work against me. But still, I can’t think of any countermeasure for her reviving.]

“It’s time to close the curtains on this.”
The scythe whizzed and cut through the air a third time.
“!”
All Leina could do was try and stave off the attack again with her shield, however...
The moment the blow landed, her shield snapped in two.
“Damn!”
“Next, I’ll be breaking that sword of yours.”
“You really think I’ll just let you?”

As long as she remained on the defensive, her loss was assured. That much she figured out when her shield broke.
[I can only attack now!]
Fending off Airi’s next blow, aimed right for her weapon, the heiress slashed horizontally.
“Kyaun!”
And with a cute scream, Airi’s right arm was slashed, sending it flailing in a high arc as it was struck off course.
[I got her good with that one!
If I can keep adding on to her injuries, I just might still stand a chance.]
Leina attacked repeatedly, swinging from right to left and back.
