Queen's Blade: Sword of the Unicorn, chapter 4-d

For the White Triangle opinion poll, "pretty neat", "didn't try it" and "it's great!" won--neck and neck--with 14v-27%, 13v-25% and 12v-23%. Then, there was "could be worse" and "looking forward to trying it" with 5v-9% and 4v-7% respectively, "awful" with 3v-5%, and nobody voted for "no point in trying since it looks terrible".
Yaaay, a fairly good response! And it'll keep getting even better too, with more story, the last game mode one of these days, maybe some balancing here and there, and if they fix the random disconnects, that'll be just the cherry on top~

And now for the follow-up poll (thanks to The Evil Overlord, who's also admin of the Discord now :3), who was your WT starter?

As for the SOU chapter, here's the other half of the song, and we approach the final fight!

Enjoy!

Leina sallied forth, relying on the will-o-wisp like flames surrounding Tomoe’s amulets for light as they navigated through the dark underground passages.
After losing the nosebleed trail they’d used to follow Fio thus far, the faint warmth still transmitted through the Sword of the Unicorn had now become their only means of reaching their destination.
“Here’s another one.”
Leina suddenly stopped, prompting Tomoe to also freeze in her tracks. The fact her friend had paused there could only mean she must have spotted some kind of trap.
“Another one?”
“Yeah, look over there and you’ll see what I mean.”
Leina pointed to a spot on the wall.

“There used to be a thin thread set across here.”
“Used to? You mean it’s been removed?”
The blonde silently nodded.
“Pull on what’s left and…”
She tugged on the remains of the thread.
*Rumble rumble* A faint vibration echoed.
“Miss Leina, did you really need to activate that?”
“It’s fine, the trap’s already been set off.”
And just as she promised, noise aside, nothing else happened.

“Considering no one reset these traps after they were used, either someone ahead of us got caught in one, or…”
Having thought of the alternative, Leina faltered.
“Or… someone disabled it intentionally.”
Tomoe guessed what the other was thinking and voiced the thought out loud.
[This entire corridor itself could be a trap designed to lure us in.]
“What should we do?”

Tomoe’s gaze seemed to ask Leina to make her decision: ‘Do we proceed anyway? Do we turn back?’
“Do you even need to ask?”
The Vance girl stretched out a bit, and resumed walking.
“I don’t plan on turning tail now. If I wanted to quit, I would have just spent the night at the baths and never even set foot here.”
[If the traps are being purposefully disabled, then there’s no need to watch out.]
It was at that moment when, as if to guide their path, they heard singing.

The captured princess has a dream
A black heart covets hers,
Fierce,
Grim,
But worst of all, horrible
The black darkness that has captured the princess
Embodies all three

Fierce things are violent
And what is violent is also grim
Grim things are horrible
And so that which is horrible is invariably grim and fierce

“Tomoe… do you hear that?”
“I do. It’s Fifi’s voice.”
The both looked to each other: because that voice wasn’t all they heard. A tune matching pace with the singing seemed to flow faintly from the Sword of the Unicorn by Leina’s chest.
They were close.

***

“Cut through it all
Embrace away fierceness with kindness
Sweep away grimness with strength
Shine away horror with beauty

Now, princess
Wait for them, wait for the hero who will set you free”

Fio’s crystal-clear singing voice echoed within the underground, so much so even after the song was done with, a faint reverberation still persisted.

“Hm, so-so, I guess.”
“Ugh… And here I thought my singing was pretty good.”
Being called average was frankly depressing.
“Still, I’ll take this off for you.”
In the shady shrine maiden’s hand was the chain Airi had used to bind Fio’s right hand. He didn’t even notice when she’d taken it off.

“Hey, Miss, you sure you don’t want to help me escape?”
“What.”
“If you help me out. I’ll thank you whichever way you want.”
“Too bad, sonny.”
She replied, ears twitching.
“But I don’t do deferred payment. Besides…”
“Besides?”
“I’m not here to rescue you.”
