QB Battle 19.7

An update that changed some of the battle's inner workings, hopefully there's no difference.

Megaupload: App + Media + Extra chars (update)
Sendspace: App + Media + Extra chars (update)

Added Warhammer's Ephrael Stern, and thanks to Bill, not just the fanmade Balrog from Tolkien's LotR:

But also the Triceratops and LW's Mutant Hill Giant:

Due to a revision of the wraiths' draining, Airi and the other two might be quite stronger now, so watch out for that. Also, renamed Swashbuckler into Lilli and Sarah into Sara, so I'd recommend deleting the "Swashbuckler" and "Sarah" folders.

Coming next: Kal Jerico, Q-Bee and the ninja's gimmicks. Also, Soul Calibur's Ivy is around the corner, so look forward to her sometime soon.

Edit (03/23): Patch for Annelotte not having available moves right at the start: Megaupload / Sendspace

  2. Works great! I love that you added a Balrog character.

Also can't wait for Q-Bee she's my favorite Darkstalker character, next to Morrigan.

  3. Have to admit the new life draining makes using Melona even MORE harder then before.

..Sure I hit for 3 damage...but then I lost 3 due to draining and they recovered 3 back...BUT beyond that been enjoying Melona utterly for a bit now, and have to say the new add-on's really do show some of the more complex stuff one can do in this ( I honestly didn't think a rule book could tell another to be able to do/not to do certen actions period like that... ).

  4. I thought the "draining when being hit" only happened when you kicked Airi/Wraith, but Bill corrected me, someone found out that all unarmed attacks cause that (except hits with shield or projectiles, Melona is all slimey so she doesn't count) and it's now part of the official rules (and happens with Veltigg and Balrog when in flames, I don't think I mentioned that).
But yeah, this system does have a lot of potential :D

  5. Um, about Balrog, he doesn't drain you, you take indirect damage when you hit him while in flames (just thought I'd make that clear).

  6. I didn't see an e-mail address or a contact page anywhere but I just wanted to say that Annellotte in my game doesn't have any attacks to choose from the get-go so she's unplayable. This happened in versus mode...

Anyway, great job with the program and gathering of characters!!

  7. The e-mail is in the app's help section, but that's okay, that's what the comments are for.
I guess I forgot about Annelotte's special case when I reformed the battle system, there's a fix for it now, thanks for the heads-up.

  8. Indeed, and I have to RELLY give credit that a system made in what?...the 80's?...If not earlier still has pretty much stayed the same all this time, while say stuff like D&D have seen MAJOR face lifts and redux's all over. Have to admit whoever figured out the idea behind the matrix's had wonderful foresight, more less must admit the Queen's Blade books have only revived that interest into this style of gaming.

Thought a few things did want to ask thought:
I noticed two stats that seem to be inactive ATM...or if they are, I am not seeing 'how'. The First being 'attacks', as I can't ever say I've seen anyone attack more then once per turn. The second being Stuff Like 'Luck', 'Tactics', 'Spell', ect. ect. What all are these for per say?

Also when playing around with Praxides, noticed her book going on about revealing cards...and you having (not implemented) with such attacks. What all would these cards do? And any idea when such would be seen added in the future?

  9. "Attacks" are exclusively used for the Multiplayer mode: when I finish it properly, if you're in 1 vs 2 battles you'll have to choose which one of your foes you want to damage each turn, or you'll be able to attack both if you have Attacks=2 (that's how I think it works, anyway).
As for Luck/Tactics/Spell points, those are to use cards sold separately from the books, that inflict various restrictions. There are a whole lot of those and I've only seen the few red spells, but I've seen reviews of people complaining about them being somehow tacky in comparison to the powerful LW system. Still, the upcoming Night Owl's 8 gimmicks are a variety of those, so I assume I'll get asked to add more once those are done ^^U

  10. Wow, didn't even notice about the equipment and other cards till I just sat down and started reading the extra pages of the books.
Hell by the sounds ( and looks of ) things, I guess I was partly right to view the books as an off-shot supplement to say D&D, but the combat being self contained. If anything else the fact that even without them and the game STILL having a mass amount of depth is quite insane.

I do wonder if there are any location or the sort that house info and images on said cards thought, or is it because FlyingBuffalo's still around ( They have 4 REALLY translated QB book's! One being of Melona! ) that info is actually EXTREMELY hard to come by?

  11. This page should have the most exhaustive list of all LW-related stuff:
    http://www.lostworlds.20m.com/index.html

Maybe those are hard to come by because Flying Buffalo is around, or maybe it's because people have already forgotten and even if QB "resurrected" the system, it chose to ignore those cards. I wouldn't know either way, I only heard about LW months after I started this project.

  12. This version seems to have resolved the scroll bar issue I was having under Windows 7. Many thanks. ^_^

  13. The game came out in the early '80s. I was in college at the time. If I recall correctly some of the books came with a coupon for 10 cents off the Julie Guthrie-sculpted figure of the character.

  14. There also was a World War I air combat game developed by the same author. It was called Ace of Aces, and had 4 different sets of two books. The combat was similar matrix based leading to viewing a image of your opponent, but much more detailed.

  15. I am surprised at the Q-Bee choice...from that series Morrigan and Felicia are far more popular and more "naked"...haha...I'll give the bee lady a try regardless...

    ReplyDelete
  16. I bet they both are, so hopefully I'll be able to add them sometime (though I'm not just aiming for Capcom chars here), but since someone went through the trouble of finding pictures, Q-Bee's first :)
@dravick: I'm glad to hear that, bugs about other OS are what worry me the most, truth be told.

  17. Des it help that I am a MASSIVE fan of Q-bee and have about half a GB worth of images alone of just her?

...It chances are just might indeed. But might try to later sit down and figure out stuff possible for Felicia. She's got more artwork then Q-bee ( only one's who don't is Buletta, even Lei-Lei outdoes Q-bee in image count ) so it'll be a FAR easier job.

Otherwise still hyped to see how Q-Bee develops in the end, inclduing after how the balrog came out.

  18. Felicia vs Cham-Cham is a bout waiting to happen!

  19. Is it possible that Annelotte is broken? The game crashed when the AI picked her, and when I picked her myself, I had no commands I could use on the first round.

Anyway, I just learned of this game today, and it is very nice and quite fun! (Although a bit puzzling at times :)) Thank you very much for making such a great game!

  20. Ayranwila, there's a specific update for Annelotte in the latest update on the main page...

  21. Annelotte's bug should be fixed with the patch above... just let me know if it's not.

Btw, I actually considered posting a prank today, but I'm from Spain, we don't celebrate April Fools on this day :p

    ReplyDelete
  22. Bah, I don't like April's Fool...I don't like to second guess news and updates...eagerly awaiting Ivy and Q-Bee though!!!

  23. I probably unzipped the files in the wrong order... I replaced the update files and now Annelotte works fine. Thanks and sorry for the stupid mistake!

By the way, would it be possible one day to have a "selective" random? If I'm not mistaken, there's some characters that seem to be hugely more powerful than others (Like the Hulk or the T-Rex for example), so it might be a good idea to be able to select between a random between "similar" fighters and a true random. Not a must have feature of course, but it could be neat in my opinion :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ayranwila, you could always lower the life points of the characters that are more powerful...I've done so for the Marvel girls in order to be more fair to the Queen's Blade gals...

  25. Honestly I've noticed the one's with High BP seem to also have rather...small critical rates as well, more less overall seem just easier to score.

I've not been able to beat T-Rex yet without leveling up, but I HAVE on the other hand defeated the Cold Drake using Just Elina (even killing it~! ) so it's not to say it's not possible at all, but it is a bit more stacked in their favor then your own.

In case you wish to see the replay of such:

    ReplyDelete
  26. The Cold Drake was banned back then (and I guess the dinosaurs would have been, too), though I see you can actually beat him...
But a "custom random" isn't a bad idea, if I get around to improving the "config" folder soon, I'll add something like it.
