Melona Again
The next morning, the group resumed their journey at dawn.
Michel led with a light gait, Elina and Airi following.
It was a smooth journey, and there was no hesitation to be had. It felt so comfy, by the time he noticed, he was humming a song.
“Ah, a bird. How rare.”
The two behind him joined his gaze ahead.
It was quite rare indeed for a bird to be flying that high, above the clouds as they currently were.
“Pink is kind of an odd color for a bird though.”
“Maybe it’s bathing in the morning sun?”
“No. That’s not a bird!”
The maid raised her voice, putting both in alert.
The bird-like thing changed its appearance, becoming a pink sphere and falling between Elina and Airi. It spread flat so as to absorb the impact.
“Phew~, just in tiiime!”
The amorphous mass undulated like a wave, forming the shape of a person.
“Melona?”
There was no room for doubt. It was the same girl that had accompanied her on her trip while she awaited for Airi to be summoned again.
“Hiii, Elina.”
“What is it? Maybe you want to travel together again?”
“It’s the other way around, Elina... in any case, your trip stops here! You can’t go to Maramaks!”
The three looked at each other hearing the new girl’s words of warning.
“Just what are you saying now?”
With a dubious expression, the wraith moved closer to Melona.
“I just found out...”
“I don’t know what you might have found out, but...”
Airi grabbed her scythe in a dignified posture, and stood between Melona and Elina.
“I won’t let you people get in our way. Even if I have to fight you.”
Airi winked at the other two, and they started running.
“Ah, wait!”
“I think I just told you not to get in our way.”
Airi prevented the slime girl from chasing the other two. After a small exchange, the running pair had already covered enough ground.
“Wow, they sure are light on their feet.”
The shapeshifter couldn’t help but give her honest opinion.
“I just want you to hear me out... if we don’t hurry, Elina is doomed.”
“What do you mean?”
“We have to stop Michel at any cost. That guy is actually bad news!”
“Can’t you try to explain a bit more convincingly? Also, improve your vocabulary a little. I don’t know what you mean by ‘bad news’.”
Airi knitted her brows. She didn’t believe for a second that the boy was a dangerous character.
“Aagh... sheesh!”
The pink girl stomped on the ground, seeing how the other didn’t budge.
