Eeey, we start chapter 8! We aren't that far from finishing this story anymore! We got a funky title for this chapter, plus a rare Aldra who wasn't using her majestic plural yet...?
Enjoy!
Chapter 8: Leina’s Journey, The Truth of Queen’s Blade (Part 1)
The story so far...
After a ruckus with Ymir, Elina rejoined with her resurrected follower Airi, and they all resumed their journey to the unexplored region of Maramaks—the place Leina suddenly left to chase after.
But then again, why would Leina leave the Earl’s house in such a hurry to journey towards it?
Eight Years Ago: The Conclusion of Queen’s Blade
The Queen’s Blade’s final battle came to a close, its winner decided.
While cheers roared, celebrating the crowning of a new Queen, Nanael held her head between her hands in bewilderment.
The door to Maramaks (the “Gate”) wasn’t opening.
“This has never happened before! What are we gonna do?”
The Beautiful Fighter who had just become Queen stared at the desperate angel with a quizzical look. Her expression clearly reflected she didn’t know what the angel was so worried about.
“What has never happened before?”
“This way we can’t fulfill the biggest obligation of a Queen, now can we~?”
“And what is that biggest obligation?”
“Ugh...”
Nanael stammered.
It wasn’t the kind of thing one would tell a Queen who couldn’t fulfill her duty.
And it was becoming clear to her why Aldra couldn’t.
Properly speaking, that new Queen shouldn’t have existed, since she was a devil spawned from the union between a demon and a human. It was a widely known fact that demons and humans couldn’t conceive a child. Even if a human female got fertilized, they would die without being able to endure the gestation process. Conversely, human sperm wouldn’t make a demon conceive a child.
But as the very proof overturning that fact, the Queen in front of Nanael’s eyes did belong to the exceptionally rare race known as devils.
“Y-You never said you were a devil, did you?”
“Did I need to?”
“But-of-course! In the first place, anyone descended from demons isn’t supposed to become Queeeen!”
Nanael’s stomps did a number on the floor.
“Never mind that, go back to the Netherworld right now!”
“I refuse. I was born and raised in this world. I simply can’t *return* to the Netherworld.”
“Fine, stay in this world then, but decline the Queen’s seat!”
“I refuse as well.”
“Huuuh?”
“From the very beginning, Queen’s Blade cares not about races. My being a devil is no reason for me not to be accepted.”
The new Queen Aldra flinched not one bit before the angel she was facing.
“I do not know what you’re so troubled about, but please rest assured. You won’t be finding my cooperation as Queen lacking.”
She smiled, triumphantly.
“Gnnnnh... if you want to cooperate, I’d rather you quit as Queen.”
Nanael didn’t back down either. She wasn’t in a position to make compromises.
“As I’m sure I’ve said before, I refuse. I must have my little sister become aware of me.”
“Are you trying to stay as Queen until you find your little sister?”
“Obviously.”
The look on the Queen’s face, as if she was talking to an unbelievable fool, only served to make Nanael even angrier.
“Fine then, if I find your sister, will you quit as Queen?”
“That’s no good either.”
“Why?”
“My sister has to find me by her own will. And for that, I’ll continue reigning as Queen, my name the most renown in the Continent.”
Aldra puffed up with self-confidence.
(This is, like, BAD NEWS, Miss Nanael.)
The angel gulped, as she thought so to herself.
At the moment, there existed no Beautiful Fighter in the Continent stronger than the just-crowned Aldra. Which only made sense; she wouldn’t have been able to win otherwise.
But that wasn’t all; Aldra being a devil meant that her loss of physical faculties due to aging would take even longer... so her winning the championship next time and continuing her reign as Queen once more was a certain possibility.
(Just WHO was it that created a system so full of holes!? Would it have hurt you to mull it over for a bit more?!)
Trembling all over, Nanael clutched her fist.
The way the system was now, she couldn’t stop the Queen from winning again and again.
However, since Aldra was a descendant of demons, she couldn’t fulfill the “Duty of a True Queen”.
“The world is... done for...”
A river of cold sweat ran down the angel’s spine.
[I have to do something...]
