As the gang rests in wait for the presumably last day of climbing, there's some time to reminisce...?
Enjoy!
Michel suddenly awoke in the middle of the night. Elina should by all rights have been inside the tent... but she wasn’t there.
He popped his head out of the tent and took a calm look around.
Airi was there, wrapped in a blanket and turning on the fire.
‘There are no harmful animals in sight, so you two don’t need to remain awake. However, we can’t outright discard the chance that some come.’
She had volunteered to keep watch all night for them.
‘I’m a wraith. I’ll be fine even if I don’t get to sleep.’
That’s what she had said...
The boy silently approached Airi. He could hear a faint sleeping breath from her.
Wraith as she might be, all beings with a physical body would get tired and need rest. Elina must have been perfectly aware of this; maybe the reason why she still had allowed the maid to take on the night watch was the “ruler’s duty” she liked to mention. Deny carelessly a subordinate’s eager request, and they would lose their motivation in the future.
With the softest footsteps he could manage—so as not to wake her up—, the kid left her side and went to look for the blonde.
The night sky was starry, but with no traces of the moon. With the dawn still a ways ahead, shining stars reached up to the horizon. It was proof that the air was crystal clear.
Elina was at the ledge’s end. Since she had taken off her armor—as rare as it was for her to be defenseless—he could clearly see the curves of her feminine body even from behind.
She was staring straight at the ridge with the Maramaks’ gate on it.
“Oh my, did you wake up?”
Noticing his approach, she called out to him without bothering to turn back.
“Now that’s perceptive.”
“We’re only three people here. It’d be weirder if I didn’t notice.”
A faint laughter mixed in with the last of her words.
“There are only two people here who make footsteps. And I’m one of them.”
“Ah, true.”
As a wraith, Airi wouldn’t set her feet on the ground unless she had a really good reason to.
“Come here.”
Saying so, she beckoned him closer, then hugged him.
“It’s warmer if we stick together.”
[She’s right.
However, this stimulus is too strong.]
The soft and comfortable feeling from her womanly body was transmitted through their clothes.
The kid felt his body reacting to the feeling of Elina as a woman, which he wasn’t normally aware of.
[I can’t... let her notice.]
“I have to thank you, Michel.”
“Thank me?”
“Yes. You should feel honored. It’s not every day that I have someone to thank.”
She smiled, pressing their bodies further together. She didn’t seem to mind how he felt.
“It’s me who has to say tha--...”
A finger against his lips interrupted him mid speech.
“It’s only natural for you to thank me. You don’t need to say it every time.”
She stated, flatly.
“People who don’t appreciate their subordinates are not qualified to be rulers. It’s no good if they don’t act voluntarily for you even when you’re not giving them orders.”
“Then, you’re already top notch as a ruler, Lady Elina.”
“But of course.”
Her snort ruffled the hair on his head.
“Back to what I wanted to say: let me say thanks anyway.”
She continued, holding him tightly from behind.
The feeling of her soft chest, not hindered by her armor, was clearly transmitted to him. It appeared like the scruff of his neck was sandwiched between her breasts.
“Thanks for bringing me this far. It was an adventure I wouldn’t have been able to experience if I hadn’t met you.”
Feeling her body temperature, he closed his eyes and reminisced about their journey.
His encounter with Elina, the adventure at Hinomoto, all that happened at Echidna’s lair, their reunion with Airi... even as they ran freely through the Continent, they had always aimed at Maramaks.
“And, I can also see this starry sky.”
Enticed by her words, he looked up at the sky. A perfect starry sky spread beyond her chest.
“Oh... a shooting star...”
“How unexpected, isn’t it?”
“I have to make a wish.”
He closed his eyes and prayed for safety on their trip.
They would arrive at Maramaks the next day.
If nothing went wrong, of course...
